Here is chapter 2 for you guys. Let me know what you think

Arrivals
The old church basement was cold and dark. The floor had a layer of dust thick enough that you could see the foot prints of small creatures scattered from one end of the room to the other with no effort, even in dim light. The ceiling was covered in cobwebs. It had been ages since anyone had been there. In fact, the whole church had been abandoned for years. There was actually talk that the local diesis might actually try to renovate the old “turn of the century” cathedral, but there was no threat of that happening any time soon.
A light sparked into existence in the middle of an archway, in the center of the room. The pinprick of light then grew into a vertical line that stretched from the floor to the top of the archway. The line then spun opening up into a portal of light. After a few seconds of the glistening portal bathing the once dark room in its light, the surface of the portal rippled, as a man stepped through.
The man walked into the room kicking dust into the air. He noticed the dust and waved his hand, wiggling a few fingers. The dust was slammed back to the ground as though it had never been disturbed. Another flip of the man’s fingers and a ball of light appeared in his upturned hand, illuminating the entire room as though daylight spilled in from some unseen window. The light illuminated the dark green cloak the man was wearing, with the hood pulled up around his face.
The man’s features were youthful, but showed wisdom beyond his years. While His striking green eyes surveyed the room, his free hand pulled some fine powder from a pouch at his belt. He placed the powder on his tongue, and made a symbol with his hand and fingers. A glowing rune appeared in the air where his fingers had traced, and his eye’s and hand began to glow. He held his glowing hand in the air, palm out, and watched where his palm pointed. He swept the room several times before dropping the detection spell he had conjured.
“It’s ok. The building is empty, as expected. Come on through.”
Then, the shimmering portal rippled again as a second and then a third person came through, stepping into the old basement. This time the dust did not leave the floor, and continued to look undisturbed. The first of the two was a middle-aged woman with long blond hair flowing from the hood of her dark-red cloak.
“That was a very good casting Nicholas. Very good control, I have taught you well.” She said with a smile from her soft pink lips. She pulled out a small round crystal that she peered into. “Very good casting indeed, you got us here within twelve hours of the incursion, and according to my reading the location you picked was flawless, within fifteen miles of the insurrection.”
“Thank you, Mistress Alana. According to all records of the time, this building should be abandoned.” Nicholas exclaimed. “We should be able to use it as a local base while we are here.” Nicholas released the globe from his hand, and it floated up into the air just above where his hand had just been. He then went over to the shimmering gate and pulled out a long wooden stick, a wand, and with the flick of his wrest and a few strong words, spoken softly, the gateway closed.
The third person pulled back his hood exposing a bald head and a solid square jaw. His brown eyes took in the musty basement and his deep voice reverberated through the stone room. “We need to act quickly. There are only five days until zero hour. This is a going to be a very dangerous assignment.”
“Good point Cameron! We need to be on our toes on this one. The timing can’t be a coincidence. This Kar’chak must be planning on trying to stop zero hour, and that can not be allowed.”
The three began pulling their cloaks off and Alana pulled out a small brass key that she used to trace a square in the air. Reality ripped open in the space she had traced, the surface of the square now glowing white. She took their cloaks and placed them inside the glowing square, then she touched the dimensional pocket with her key again, and it closed. Cameron opened the large bag he had brought and began handing out supplies. He gave a small pouch to Nicholas. He pulled a out handbag and gave it to Alana.
Nicholas opened his pouch and in it were the trappings of this time. A pistol called a Glock 9mm, four clips of ammunition, a communicator known as a cell phone, a headset to use with the phone, a small pocket knife, some paper the locals used for money, a folding map of the area, and a small computer called a PDA with all the data they could find on this time loaded on it.
Nicholas looked up to see Alana checking her set of gear. She had a stubby little pistol. I believe it was called a Walther PK. She also had a small folding computer the size of a notebook that she was powering up. She pulled out her ‘phone’ and a cable that connected it to the computer, and began working on it.
Nicholas noticed Cameron fitting a shoulder holster for the hand canon he had brought for himself. It was a revolver that took a high caliber round. He believed it was called a 357 Magnum. Cameron spun the pistol around his finger a few times, ending with placing the pistol in its holster, like an old west gunfighter of over a millennia ago. Cameron was enamored with that time period. He was wearing a full leather outfit, with black leather pants, a black tee-shirt, and a long black leather trench coat.
“Ok, we know the Kar’chak arrived yesterday. Nothing I can find from the local paper suggests that he has made a move yet, no history has changed yet. He or she could be a very shrewd customer. We must be very cautious… but we do have a lot of ground to cover in only a few days.” Alana said as she read through the local news on her computer.
She continued, “I think it will be best if we split up. Nicholas is well trained and I think he can take care of himself on this one. I will stay here for now and coordinate, Nicholas I want you to take to the north, Cameron take south. I want you both to keep your eyes and your senses open.”
“Yes, Miss Alana. I hope not to let you down.” Nicholas said proudly.
